Is Butrans the same thing as Suboxone? I know that both these products are used in the treatment of heroin addiction, but are they only different brands of the same thing or are these two products something entirely different from each other?

While both of them are used for similar purposes, these two remedies work in different ways. Both of them are based on buprenorphine, which is a partial agonist, but Suboxone completely blocks opioid reception because it also has a blocker called naloxone.

These two medications are not the same. Butrans stands for buprenorphine transdermal system and it’s used to treat opioid addiction, as well as pain issues. Suboxone is also buprenorphine, but it also contains naloxone. It can be found in both sublingual film and tablet forms. The main difference here is that butrans, which is the buprenorphine alone, is a partial agonist. Suboxone, however, is considered an antagonist. While a partial agonist activates some opioid receptors of the brain, antagonists completely block them, which happens because of the naloxone.

No, Butrans is different from Suboxone. While both of them contain buprenorphine, only Suboxone has naloxone, which blocks opioid transmission. Also, the ways to ingest these remedies may be different, too.

Butrans is a partial agonist while Suboxone is an antagonist. The difference may not be so visible at first, but the fact is that one of them is actually used to activate opioid receptors on the user’s brain while Suboxone completely blocks these opioids from being attached to them. This happens because Suboxone has a substance called naloxone, which is an opioid blocker.
